Advancing Rhinoplasty with Dorsal Preservation

Montefiore Einstein now offers a less invasive approach to rhinoplasty that delivers natural, tailored results with faster recovery and less trauma than traditional surgery.

With dorsal preservation rhinoplasty, patients now have more options when considering cosmetic or functional nasal improvements. This technique, performed by Nigar N. Ahmedli, MD, Otorhinolaryngologist– Head and Neck Surgeon, Montefiore Einstein and Assistant Professor, Otorhinolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine, provides comprehensive nasal correction while preserving the nasal bridge as a single unit. The approach offers a less traumatic alternative to traditional structural rhinoplasty and allows surgeons to tailor results precisely to each patient's unique facial structure.

“Unlike traditional structural rhinoplasty, which involves lifting the skin and completely disassembling the nasal structures before reconstructing them, dorsal preservation rhinoplasty keeps the dorsum intact as a cohesive unit”, explains Dr. Ahmedli. “We're able to lower the bridge position without disassembling nasal structures and perform osteotomies, cut in the nasal bones, without damaging cartilage.”

For the right candidates, dorsal preservation can reduce recovery time with patients experiencing substantially less swelling and bruising of the nose and cheek areas. For patients with septal deviation, the technique can be used to reorient the septum while improving both appearance and breathing function.

At Montefiore Einstein, serving the diverse Bronx community means providing personalized approaches that respect and enhance each patient’s unique facial structures. The flexibility of dorsal preservation rhinoplasty enables surgeons to achieve optimal results that maintain facial cohesion. The technique can be adapted from subtle refinements to substantial changes while ensuring natural-looking outcomes that preserve each patient's ethnic facial characteristics rather than creating a uniform appearance.

Implementing dorsal preservation as an additional rhinoplasty technique at Montefiore Einstein Otorhinolaryngology– Head & Neck Surgery demonstrates our commitment to patient-first care, bringing the latest less invasive surgical innovations to our diverse community and setting new standards for excellence in advanced otorhinolaryngologic care.
