EyeLecture Expands Global Access to Ophthalmology Education Through Mobile & AI Innovation

EyeLecture, a novel cloud-based learning platform, reaches a key milestone with mobile expansion, artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled features and growing national and international interest.

Montefiore Einstein has announced a major milestone in the development of EyeLecture, an innovative, cloud-based ophthalmology education platform designed to expand access to high-quality medical training worldwide. In 2025, EyeLecture is entering its next phase of growth, marked by the completion of the first phase of its mobile application and the continued development of artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled features intended to broaden global access to ophthalmology education.

Developed by Anurag Shrivastava, MD, Attending Physician of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at Montefiore Einstein, Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and a veteran educator in the field, EyeLecture was created in response to persistent challenges faced by educators and trainees worldwide, including limited access to standardized curricula, scheduling barriers and uneven availability of high-quality educational resources. The platform provides a centralized, collaborative space where students, residents and educators can access lectures, share expertise and curate training content tailored to diverse learning environments.

Developed in collaboration with Montefiore Einstein residents, medical students, faculty and program directors across the United States, EyeLecture is designed as a flexible, customizable learning solution that enables educators and learners worldwide to collaborate, share expertise and build dynamic training environments. Educators can update content directly within the portal to ensure materials remain current and clinically relevant, while learners benefit from on-demand access to lectures enhanced with interactive resources. The platform will allow institutions to custom-build curricula tailored to their specific training needs and educational goals, supporting scalable, flexible learning across diverse educational settings.

Interest in EyeLecture continues to grow. To date, 18 U.S. ophthalmology residency programs have expressed interest in contributing content, and dozens of lectures are already available on the platform, signaling strong early momentum across the academic community. The completion of the mobile development phase further positions EyeLecture for broader global reach, enabling learners to access educational content beyond traditional desktop-based settings.

In parallel, the EyeLecture team is advancing AI-driven capabilities, including rapid transcription and multilingual translation of lectures, which will allow educators to deliver content in their native languages. These features are expected to significantly expand access to ophthalmology education in resource-limited regions, particularly in areas where early international interest has been demonstrated, including Africa and India. A strategic partnership with the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) Foundation will propel the Eyelecture platform to thousands of new learners while elevating the depth and quality of our curriculum to unprecedented heights.

The first phase of the EyeLecture mobile application was made possible through generous support from the Sheindlin Family, the Allergan Foundation, the Alcon Foundation, the Manhattan Eye and Ear Ophthalmology Alumni Foundation, the Ronald M. Burde Resident Education Fund, the Lighthouse Guild Foundation, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Office of Medical Education and numerous alumni of the Department. With this milestone achieved, Dr. Shrivastava and the EyeLecture team are now focused on future development and expanded deployment, underscoring Montefiore Einstein’s commitment to innovation, education and expanding access to high-quality ophthalmology training worldwide.
