Gastroenterology at Montefiore Einstein Expands the Scope with Its Annual Bronx Live Endoscopy Course

Each year, Gastroenterology at Montefiore Einstein hosts its annual “Bronx Live” Endoscopy Course, featuring real-time demonstrations of the most up-to-date and advanced endoscopic techniques and emerging innovations, performed by leading experts in gastroenterology and broadcast live from our state-of-the-art endoscopy suites.

On September 13, 2024, Gastroenterology at Montefiore Einstein hosted its 9th annual one-day Bronx Live Endoscopy Course providing live demonstrations from real-time endoscopy procedures performed by leading experts and panel discussions focused on advanced techniques and the latest innovations in endoscopy.

Spearheaded by Sammy Ho, MD, Associate Professor of Gastroenterology and Director of Interventional Endoscopic Services and Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship who has served as Course Director since its inception, this unique event provides real-time exposure to advanced gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures performed in a live clinical setting. Designed for practicing gastroenterologists, endoscopists and other healthcare providers involved in endoscopy and the care of patients with gastrointestinal diseases, this full-day continuing medical education (CME) conference fosters an evidence-based approach to endoscopic decision-making for commonly encountered and controversial problems in gastroenterology.

Some of the moderated live case transmissions featured the latest advances in endoscopic imaging such as endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA), EUS-guided cyst-gastrostomy, EUS-guided necrosectomy, and EUS-guided fiducial placement as well as emerging endoscopic techniques including ampullectomy, lithotripsy for difficult stone disease, hilar stricture management, esophageal, duodenal and/or colonic stenting, difficult polypectomy, advanced colonoscopy techniques and fecal transplantation.

“Our goal is to expose participants to the most up-to-date and advanced endoscopy techniques in a real-time clinical environment,” says Dr. Ho. “This live format allows attendees to observe complex, high-yield cases and procedural decision-making as it occurs, providing insights that can be directly translated into improved clinical practice.”

Our Bronx Live Endoscopy Course further highlights our leadership and commitment to advancing education, research and clinical care in gastroenterology and ensuring healthcare professionals stay at the forefront of patient care. We’re among the highest-performing centers in the nation for gastroenterology and GI surgery, according to U.S. News & World Report, and are an international referral site for the most complex cases.

On September 11, 2025, Gastroenterology at Montefiore Einstein will host its 10th annual one-day Bronx Live Endoscopy Course. As one of New York State’s largest CE-accredited providers, Montefiore Einstein designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
