Full Circle—and Forward
As a child, Dr. Abraham often trailed behind her mother through the halls of the Bronx’s Hebrew Home for the Aged, watching elderly patients brighten the moment her mother entered the room—a quiet kind of magic that never left her. “It was clear that her presence brought comfort and joy,” she says.
Her mother completed her internal medicine residency at what is now Montefiore Wakefield, ensuring that medicine in the Bronx was ever present in her earliest memories. A book fair biography of Elizabeth Blackwell, the nation’s first woman physician, sealed the idea that she, too, could wear a white coat.
A summa cum laude graduate of the University of Connecticut, Dr. Abraham earned her medical degree and completed her urology residency at NYU Langone Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in urogynecology and reconstructive pelvic surgery at the Cleveland Clinic.
Since joining Montefiore Einstein in 2015, she has built one of the region’s most comprehensive pelvic floor programs, treating urinary incontinence; vaginal prolapse; urethral reconstruction; and mesh complications with robotic, open, and vaginal surgical approaches. She has authored more than 66 peer-reviewed publications and secured competitive funding from the Department of Defense and the SUFU Foundation for research on pelvic floor disorders.
Leadership has followed clinical success: From 2020–2025, she directed Montefiore’s Urology Residency Program and chaired Einstein’s Executive Curriculum Committee. In July 2025, she became Vice Chair of Urology, focusing on removing systemic barriers to physician productivity, recruitment and retention, expanding service lines, and faculty development and mentorship. Her work aims to lift Montefiore faculty into regional and national leadership.
For Dr. Abraham, the role is both personal and forward-looking. “Practicing urology in the Bronx, where my mother built her career, feels like coming full circle,” she says. “But the real excitement is shaping the next chapter—creating programs and research that will improve pelvic health for generations to come.”
