Clinical Trials

Advancing care through clinical trials

Montefiore’s Pulmonary Division is dedicated to advancing knowledge of respiratory health through medical research. Faculty are currently participating in a variety of clinical trials which include looking at improving lung cancer detection through training deep learning algorithms to identify suspicious histologic findings to streamline lung cancer detection (ON-SITE Study) and preoxygenating critically ill patients prior to intubation with facemask oxygen versus non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (PREOXY trial). Additional research efforts span the breadth of pulmonary disease, creating and evaluating minimally invasive technologies for lung cancer diagnosis and treatment (CLEVER trial), as well as biomarker development for non-invasive assays of lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma risk, and general lung disease pathogenesis. We have recently examined novel treatment plans for nontuberculous mycobacterium and pulmonary arterial hypertension. We continue to look at long term effects of World Trade Center exposures for FDNY using respiratory oscillometry, the impact of eliminating race-based equations in pulmonary function testing, the effects of obstructive sleep apnea on hearing, and issues pertaining to chronic cough.

The ON-SITE Trial

  • Official Title: A Multicenter Study in Bronchoscopy Combining Stimulated Raman Histology With Artificial Intelligence for Rapid Lung Cancer Detection
  • Sponsor: Invenio Imaging, Inc.
  • ClinicalTrials.gov ID: NCT07045103

The CLEVER Study

  • Official Title: Bronchoscopy With and Without Needle-based Confocal Laser Endomicroscopy for Peripheral Lung Nodule Diagnosis
  • Sponsor: Amsterdam UMC
  • ClinicalTrials.gov ID: NCT06079970

The ENCORE Trial

  • Official Title: A Study to Evaluate ALIS (Amikacin Liposome Inhalation Suspension) in Participants With NTM Lung Infection Caused by Mycobacterium avium Complex
  • Sponsor: Insmed Incorporated
  • ClinicalTrials.gov ID: NCT04677569
