HIGHLIGHTS

An International Referral Site for the Most Complex and Rare Moyamoya Cases

As a Center of Excellence in Moyamoya Disease, Montefiore Einstein continues to expand its leadership, offering a multi-disciplinary approach with state-of-the-art evaluation and advanced treatment for patients with moyamoya disease, a complex condition that requires multiple areas of expertise.

Our clinical and research experts—including cerebrovascular neurosurgeons, vascular neurologists, pediatric neurosurgeons, and neuro-radiologists—utilize advanced imaging technology to evaluate patients with moyamoya disease, and determine whether they can be either managed medically or benefit from blood flow restoration surgery. There are several individualized surgical options for each patient using direct, indirect or combined revascularization techniques that bypass the narrowed carotid arteries and/or create a new blood supply to the brain. These techniques include encephaloduroarteriosynangiosis (EDAS) and superficial temporal to middle cerebral artery anastomosis (STA-MCA) bypass.
