Alissa Baker, MD, was awarded a Career Development Award from the Department of Defense Office of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs. Her proposal, entitled "Targeting Noncanonical Wnt Signaling to Prevent Ewing Sarcoma Metastases in a Novel Zebrafish Model" (01/01/25-12/31/28; total costs: $1,344,000), aims to identify receptor(s) for Wnt5a in Ewing sarcoma using a CRISPR/Cas9 screen, analyze Wnt signaling targets in Ewing sarcoma upon manipulation of embryonic development using our novel in vivo zebrafish model system, and evaluate the contribution of Wnt5a to Ewing sarcoma tumor development by designing a heat-shock inducible Wnt5a- overexpression zebrafish model.
